The story of this install

A big bill, and no rush

Rob's household uses a lot of electricity, around 10,000kWh a year, with bills close to £3,000. He first got in touch in the summer of 2025 after seeing one of our ads, then took his time. In spring 2026 he was ready to look properly, and came into our Cardiff showroom to talk it through with Dan.

What he wanted was honest advice rather than a sales pitch. We looked at his roof on the big screen, went through how the household uses power, and talked about the electric car that was part of the plan. Our surveyor visited a week later to check everything in person.

Three roof faces, no shade

The roof has no shading at all, so we used three faces: south, east and west. The south face does the heavy lifting in the middle of the day, while the east and west faces start earlier and finish later, so generation is spread across the whole day.

We fitted 28 AIKO panels (13kWp) with a GoodWe 10kW hybrid inverter. Two GoodWe batteries give 16kWh of storage, mounted on an outside wall with the inverter, and a home EV charger went in on its own circuit.

Handled for him

Once Rob said yes, his project manager introduced herself and took him through what would happen and when. We applied to National Grid for the grid connection and booked the scaffold, and the team fitted and commissioned the system in May 2026.

The MCS certificates, electrical certificate and handover pack followed a few days later, with a call to check everything was working as it should.

Living with it

The MCS estimate puts yearly generation at around 10,900kWh, about the same as the house uses in a year. In summer the batteries store what the house doesn't use during the day; in winter they can top up from cheap overnight power for the car and the evening.

The GoodWe app shows what the panels are producing, what's in the batteries and what's going to the car.

Yearly generation is the MCS estimate made for this home before installation, using the standard MCS method. Real output varies from year to year with the weather.

Dan took the time to invite us into the showroom and explain everything clearly and professionally. There was absolutely no pressure selling, just honest advice and guidance, which we really appreciated.
