The story of this install
Six quotes, then one up the road
Howard had already collected six quotes when he spotted on Facebook that we'd fitted systems on houses just up the road from him, a few minutes from our Whitchurch showroom. So he came to talk to us.
The difference for him was that someone came out and looked at the house before he'd paid anything, and our roofer suggested extra touches to make it all work. “Everyone else I spoke to, I would have had to have paid money before somebody could come and tell me that actually they couldn't do what I wanted them to do.”
Not a single hole in the new render
Howard's house had been re-rendered about eighteen months earlier, and he asked for nothing to be drilled through that wall. On the first day the team found a way to bring the cables in below the level of the render, then up into the soffit and under the tiles. “This wall has not been touched,” he said. “It couldn't have been neater.”
His roof has no single big south face, so we spread 15 DMEGC 450W panels across three roof faces, each with its own Tigo optimiser, and fitted an EcoFlow 6kW inverter with a 5.1kWh EcoFlow battery in the garage. Howard is home all day, so the system was set up to use as much solar as possible in the house, with the battery topping up from cheap overnight power in the darker months.
Half the bill in nine days
Nine days after switch-on, Howard compared his bills: “it's halved it already.” His only complaint, tongue in cheek, is how long he spends on the app. He can check the house from the shops, and once rang his son to get out of the shower because he could see how much power it was using.
A year on
We went back about a year later. Howard said he was surprised only by “how smoothly it's gone and how well it performs”, even through a wet, dark winter. When the app had a download problem, Luke in our office told him exactly what was happening and when it would be fixed.
He still pops into the shop “just to say hello”, and he's since introduced his brother-in-law, with his daughter thinking about doing the same.
Yearly generation is the MCS estimate made for this home before installation, using the standard MCS method. Real output varies from year to year with the weather.
