Our simple 4-step process

01

Showroom visit

Before you commit to anything, we invite you into our Cheltenham showroom where we run a free Return on Investment Assessment for your home. We look at your electricity usage, your roof and how you actually live, then show you what a system would generate, what it would save and how long it would take to pay for itself. In real numbers, for your house, not a best-case example from a leaflet. And if the numbers don't stack up for your property, we'll tell you honestly rather than talk you into something that won't deliver.

02

Site survey

If the numbers stack up and you'd like to go ahead, one of our team will visit your home to check everything properly: the roof, the loft, your consumer unit and where the battery and inverter would sit. It's the person who understands the installation looking at the job, not a salesperson filling in a form. Once they've confirmed the details, you'll get a clear quotation for the whole project. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, this is also when we confirm what permission is needed. You'll see exactly what's included, and you can take your time to decide.

03

Installation

Once your survey is done, your dedicated project manager will be in touch to book your installation date. They'll walk you through what happens and when, from the scaffolding to the panels and electrical work, and stay your single point of contact throughout.
If anything's ever unclear along the way, you'll know exactly who to call, and most installs are wrapped up within a couple of days.

Aftercare

Getting the panels on the roof isn't the end of the job. We connect your system to the grid, handle the registrations and paperwork, and make sure everything is performing exactly as it should before we sign it off. We'll also help you get set up with your electricity supplier so you're paid for anything you export. And when a question pops into your head six months later, about your app, your bills or adding a battery, our Montpellier showroom is still there. Ring us or drop in.

Why homeowners in Cheltenham choose The Solar House

      Regency and listed homes

Much of Cheltenham is a conservation area and many Regency buildings are listed. Solar can often still work on a less visible slope, and we check planning first.

      Cotswold stone roofs

Stone cottages, older roofs and the protected Cotswold landscape need extra care. We check how panels would sit and any permissions, and say if solar isn't right.

      We deal with the grid

In Gloucestershire, your network operator is National Grid Electricity Distribution. We handle the notifications and registrations, so you can leave that side to us.

      Based in Montpellier

From Montpellier we look after homes across Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds. Our own team carries out your survey, not a salesperson.

      See your potential savings

Every home is different, so we won’t pretend there’s one number that applies to everyone.
As a guide: a typical terraced house with six panels and a small battery might save around £1,100 a year, while a large detached home with a bigger system can save £2,900 or more. Payback usually lands between four and seven years, and the panels keep working long after that.

The only way to know your number is to look at your home, your roof and your bills, which is exactly what our free Return on Investment Assessment does. There’s no obligation attached, and if the numbers don’t work for your property, we’ll be the ones to tell you.

      Your solar questions

Most roofs are. South-facing is best, but east and west-facing roofs work well too, and we'll check for shading from trees, chimneys or neighbouring buildings. If your roof isn't a good fit, we'll tell you rather than sell you something that won't deliver.

It depends on the size of the system, which way your roof faces and any shading. As a rough guide, each kilowatt of panels on a good roof in our area produces around 850 to 1,000 kWh a year. Your Return on Investment Assessment shows the figure for your own roof.

Usually not. Rooftop solar on most houses counts as permitted development. Listed buildings, some conservation areas and flats can be different, so we check before anything is agreed and help with the application if one is needed.

We mainly fit LONGi panels, and have also fitted AIKO and JA Solar. All are established manufacturers with long warranties: LONGi EcoLife panels carry a 30-year product and 30-year performance warranty, and the AIKO and JA Solar panels we've fitted a 25-year product and 30-year performance warranty.

Panels, inverters and batteries each come with a manufacturer's warranty, and LONGi panels also include an exclusive Solar House labour and access warranty. Your installation also comes with a workmanship warranty, protected by an insurance-backed guarantee as the Renewable Energy Consumer Code requires, and we'll explain exactly what's covered, and for how long, before you sign anything.

Your showroom visit is free and there's nothing to sign on the day. If you'd like to go ahead, the survey comes next, then a clear quotation for the whole project. There are no discount deadlines; take your quote, compare it with others and come back if it makes sense for you.
